Soaring with no limits

Ascension was founded in 2007 with the motto “Soaring with NO Limits.”  The organization focuses on wellness for individuals of all ages with the goal of empowering individuals to accomplish their goals and operate at their fullest potential. Wellness is multidimensional and incorporates at least 7 areas (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, environmental and financial). Tasha King has worked as corporate trainer for over 20 years, she is a playwright, Certified Personal Trainer, a Certified Group Exercise Instructor with Aerobics Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM), Nutritional Consultant, Licensed ZUMBA instructor and Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).

Current Wellness Classes/Trainings

Zumba-Latin inspired dance class with international rhythms and music inspired from the African Diaspora. Ditch that old workout and join the party! Classes are taught on Saturday mornings in various locations from 8am-9am.

Silver Sneakers- A fun, energizing health, nutrition, fitness and social program for adults 65 and older. Classes are taught in-person on Monday and Friday mornings at 11am. Location: 2811 Fendall Avenue in KD Turner Building.

Nutrition As We Age- Many of the health problems experienced are nutritionally related. This class seeks to identify the barriers to healthy eating and nutrition, discuss the role of culture in eating, how nutrition affects optimal aging, identify key components of a healthy, balanced diet, understand the relationship between nutrition, exercise and mental health.

Resting and Resilient-What is rest? What does it mean to be resilient? Session explores 5 pillars of resilience with emphasis on mindfulness. Class may include an optional Paint Party.

Financial Literacy-There are still myths, misconceptions, misinformation and misunderstandings regarding finances. Course focuses on money management, budgeting, saving, debt, investing and wealth creation. Learn from Accountants, Bankruptcy Specialists, Financial Planners, Realtors, Lenders and Credit Repair Specialist.

Children & Youth Classes

Dare to Be Different - This class teaches self-love, how to embrace unique, gifts and talents in addition to developing natural leadership skills.

Social and Meal Etiquette - Many youth have never been out to a “fancy” restaurant. This interactive event not only focuses on developing social skills and embracing new experiences but also manners. Manners can be taught at a young age. This class takes place in a 5-star restaurant as participants practice hands on social and meal etiquette.

Financial Literacy for Youth-This interactive course lays a foundation for youth to learn early in life how to build strong money habits to prevent lifelong money issues and struggles.

Theatre/Drama/Art-Seasonal youth paint parties and opportunities to audition and participate in plays and shows.

We are available to teach exercise classes, conduct nutrition and wellness workshops and group nutrition challenges for weight loss and healthy eating. Individuals who have taken our challenges have lost significant amounts of weight, improved their overall health and nutrition, and reversed the effects of diabetes.


NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

ASCENSION WOMEN'S GROUPS-Get together with other women from all walks of life quarterly to be encouraged, empowered, and celebrated. This group provides opportunities for networking, service opportunities, personal and professional development. Our motto is "Soaring with NO Limits."  Meetings: February, May (Special Women’s Gala), August, and November.


A little more about Tasha's qualifications

With degrees in Business Administration, Sociology, 18 years working as a Qualified Mental Health Professional and various licenses and certifications, Tasha is very comfortable coaching and training a diverse audience of people. She has the ability to take technical information and simplify it so others can feel confident and empowered to meet their goals and accomplish personal success. Tasha King was invited on several occasions to speak to management and all the owners on the East Coast of the McDonald’s Corporation and to facilitate trainings with government and nonprofit leaders. She has seen great success and has been asked to speak in varies companies, prisons, schools, transitional homes, homeless and domestic violence shelters and churches. Tasha believes in the village concept. She has a great community network of speakers, leaders and experts who support and assist with the organization’s mission.
